Since a few days Google Daydream VR Platform (launched back in 2016) finally host its own browser: Google Chrome.

Google Chrome

Chrome is the world’s most popular browser used by 44.5% of users, and is now available in VR, bridging the gap between the different platforms.

Before of that, it was necessary to have an smartphone with Chrome, what means to open the app in the smartphone and introduce it in Daydream Headsets (like Google Daydream View or Lenovo Mirage Solo).

Now, anyone using a Daydream Headset will be able to install Google Chrome from the Play Store, also having the possibility of use the rest of virtual reality apps made by Google.

Google has promised that  all the features are now accessible, such us voice search, saved bookmarks and incognito mode.

We don’t know exactly why, but it takes more than a year for Google to bring its browser to their VR platform.

Are there many differences between VR version than traditional Google Chrome?

The answer is not in all the important things, because Chrome in VR has the same basic feature, but the VR version is built to support the WebVR standard, and they have added some new functions only for Daydream VR use, such us “cinema mode”.

Cinema mode is probably the most significant difference. It allows users to watch videos within a virtual environment in an optimal way.

Google also made YouTube VR compatible for Samsung Gear VR users and the Oculus VR platform.
