Augmented Reality technology is getting more and more in our daily lives everyday, from marketing and advertisements we see, to several sectors and services like medicine or industry.
In VT-LAB, we work with this technology and we’re managing to introduce it to the AECO sector. In this post we’re going to talk about the different AR devices we can find.
Starting with Daqri, this company has two products, Daqri Smart Glasses and Daqri Smart Helmet. These products focus on the communication and visualization solutions for the industrial sector. Although these models are getting old, for example they lack of any tracking technology, but they’re still useful and the company is still working, so we hope to see new AR devices from them in the near future.
Meta, on the other side, has a headset, Meta 2, that has hand tracking and that we’ve been using in VT-LAB for some industrial projects but, unfortunately the company is shutted down and sold its assets to an unknown company.
Magic Leap, this company that was hyping the sector for a few years, we think that they still have a long way to go, mainly because their product, Magic Leap One, is under the expectations they created but they have good ideas about what to do with AR.
Microsoft and their recently launched HoloLens 2 has shown they’re at the top in the sector and they’re focusing on the use of this glasses for AECO companies as they showed during the Mobile World Congress last month in Barcelona. The tracking system of the device is way better than the limited one from their first model as well as the FoV (Field of View) is bigger.
Here in the company we use the first HoloLens for our construction projects.
Augmented Reality is not only a technology exclusive for glasses, a lot of people might have a device in their pocket capable of using AR but they might not know. We’re talking, of course, about Smartphones. Google and Apple, with ARCore and ARKit respectively, have been working on these systems so that regular consumer can access to Augmented Reality.
Also, you can have a look at these post where we talked more deeply about the devices:
Do you use Augmented Reality? What device do you have? How do you think this technology will develop in the future? Tell us in the comments!
